Eugene E. Chappo

Eugene Edwin Chappo, 53, of 127 High St., Beckley was dead on arrival Wednesday, June 1, 1994 at a Beckley hospital following a short illness.

Born September 2, 1940, at Beckley, he was the son of Steve Chappo of Beckley and the late Mary Seaman Chappo.

Mr. Chappo was of the Christain faith, had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he served as a Military Policeman in the K-9 Corp.

He was the owner and operator of the Bonnie-Blue Ice Cream Company in Beckley, was a former policeman for the City of Beckley, a former policeman for the Austin City Police Department and the Park Rangers in Austin, Texas.

Mr. Chappo was the former manager of Backporch Barbeque Restaurant, was a 1958 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and was known for his work in leather crafts.

Other survivors include his wife of 23 years, Sandra Morrison Chappo; a son, Stephen Chappo stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Azores, Portugual; a daughter, Mrs. Randy (Shelia Jo) Peterson of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, Brent and Kayla Peterson; a step grandson, James Peterson; a sister, Mrs. Don (Mary Ann) Crook of Blue Jay Six and a nephew, Chris Crook.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Robin Debham officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert Keene, Bernie Lovern, Howard Green, Carlos McMillion, Von Daniel and Jimmy Wheeler.

Note - Gene Chappo was only 13 years old when the Korean Conflict ended. The article probably meant to say he had served in Korea.
