Howard 'Sonny' Campbell

By the grace of God, Howard "Sonny" Campbell departed this life on Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, after a short illness

Born Sept. 14, 1940, in Beckley, he was the son of Kathelyne Blake of Beckley and the late Bernard Campbell.

Sonny attended Mount Tabor Christain School and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, class of 1958. He was a former resident of Daniels and worked 20 years as an electrical field supervisor for BLC Construction Co. of Virginia Beach, Va. He made his home in Forest Hill for the past year. He was a member of the Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM.

Sonny was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Sherri Campbell Burnett; a brother, Bob Williams; stepfather, Harold Blake; and a dear aunt, Margie Williams.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley Angle Campbell; a daughter, Diane Mays of Cool Ridge; a son, John Campbell of Hinton; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Charles "Chuck" Blake and wife, Sue and sister Pam Bailey and husband Gary, all of Beckley; two stepsisters, Barbara Currier and Beatrice Farley, and a stepbrother, Pete Blake and wife Joann.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley with the Rev. Bill Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Cavalry Baptist Church Cemetery, Red Sulphur Springs.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Cochran, Danny Birchfield, Donnie Caldwell, Jim Blake, Ronnie Ward and Aaron Mays, along with honorary pallbearers of David Crum and Don Davis.
