Janet E. Bennett Grecco

Janet E. Bennett Grecco, 66, formerly of Bradley, died at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, after a long illness at Pinecrest Hospital nursing home, Beckley.

She was born Oct. 25, 1939, at Mount Hope, the daughter of the late John Manuel "Pete" Bennett and Virgie (Suttle) Bennett of Bradley. She grew up at Skelton and lived most of her adult life in the Bradley/Beckley area.

Janet was a 1958 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Beckley College. After 10 years in Waldorf, Md., she was employed by Raleigh County National Bank in Beckley in 1973 as a secretary in the trust department where she eventually worked herself up to become the assistant trust officer.

Janet was a member of Bradley Freewill Baptist Church and the American Institute of Banking. She loved the outdoors, gardening, oil painting, pencil sketches and ceramics. She was also a past member of the Beckley Art Guild.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Manuel "Pete" Bennett. In addition to her mother, Virgie Suttle Bennett, she is survived by a son, Carl D. Grecco of Beckley and friend, Melissa Mullins; a daughter, Cheryl Ballard and her husband, Scott, of Beckley; six sisters, Linda and her husband Paul Martin, of Beckley, Pat and her husband, Jim Tomczyk, of Knoxville, Tenn., Helen, and her husband, Don Farley, of Sophia, Ellen and her husband, Jerry Dean, of Knoxville, Sandra, and her husband, David Allen, of Shady Spring and Bobbie, and her husband, Dennis Humphrey, of Beckley; a brother, Charles and his wife, Maxine Bennett, of Bradley; and two grandchildren, Ryan Ballard and Tre Ballard of Beckley. She is also survived by the father of her children, Fred Grecco of Beckley; several nieces, nephews and other relatives; and her many friends. Janet will be remembered as a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to those who knew her.

In keeping with her wishes, Janet's body was donated to WVU for medical research.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bradley Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Legg officiating.
