Distinguished Classmates


While all classmates we are aware of appear accomplished and doing well in various endeavors, as with any group some stand out having distinguished themselves through their profession, more than one profession and contributions to mankind. We are proud to lay claim to the following:

James Garrett Anderson, III, who remained in Beckley, practices corporate law as the senior partner of a law firm renouned throughout West Virginia and has made many contributions to the Beckley community through civic affairs.

George Theibert Arnold, Jr., PhD, who made valuable contributions to higher education through his teaching, the texts he authored on the English language and his dedication to West Virginia citizenship.

Paul Martain Chickos, M.D., who earned a license to practice medicine and still practices radiology in the State of Washington.

Harold Andrew Earehart, who remained in Beckley and contributed leadership in the business community, just as he provided leadership to our high school class.

Sharon Lee Evans-Rose, who established herself as a professional entertainer through dance; with her husband acquired and continued the Beckley Dance Studio. Sherry also established herself as a fixture in the Beckley business community as a partner in a home decorating studio (Pandora's Box) and managing real estate in the Beckley area. On May 29, 2007 Sherry added to her laurels when her first novel, ERASED was published by Headline Books. More novels are works in progress.

Franklin Davis Heatherly, PhD, who participated in education at many levels, including teaching management principles in the higher education environment on three continents.

Colonel Richard William Highlander, who retired from the United States Army and then became a senior business executive in the field of energy.

Melvin Storm Jamison, DM, who established himself as a principal in the Raleigh County School System before establishing himself in another profession, Baptist ministry.

Joyce Kay Shumate-Phipps, who served the people of West Virginia in two fields - education and social work, prior to participating in federal reviews of head start programs throughout the United States.

William Edward Snuffer, who learned his business from his father, purchased that business, became a leader in the Beckley business community and continues to contribute to the Beckley Spirit in many ways.

Major George Winton "Little Rock" Thompson, United States Air Force who sacrificed all of his tomorrows, for ours.

Linda Lou Underwood-Klopp who devoted entire decades of her life to making Raleigh County, West Virginia a better place in which to live.

Martha Jane Wood-Ventura, who distinguished herself in the nursing profession and public service to the people of West Virginia.

While there are certainly more than 13 classmates deserving of special recognition, these are a fair representation of the best among the Woodrow Wilson High School - Class of 1958. If you feel other classmates deserve a place on this list, nominate them through the web site.
