"Old times there are not forgotten"
Some time back, we began to collect pictures of the class during various phases of our lives, especially our school years. The collection began with Martha Jane Wood-Ventura's contribution. A number of classmates including, but not limited to Ida Rose Adkins, Peggy Davis-Davila, Corky Lively, Tamara Harrah-Jones, Ida Mae and Bill Highlander, Linda Henson-Meadows and Jackie and Pat Porterfield have added to the collection. What we hope to accomplish is an extensive collection of our pictures beginning with elementary school, proceeding to Beckley Junior High School and then, pictures of us as Woodrow Wilson High School students. We also have a collection of alumni pictures.
We want to do a number of things with our collection beginning with display on this website. When the 50th class reunion is held in 2008, we will offer a collection of prints to decorate the room where the reunion will be held. Also, in celebration of our 50th anniversary of graduation, a complete collection of the grade school group pictures will be printed and presented to the Raleigh County Historical Society. It seems a fitting tribute.
The Lincoln School collection has developed faster than the others and is a good representation of what we hope to accomplish with the other schools. We want class pictures, basketball team pictures, cheerleading groups or any other club activity group available. Candid pictures are also utilized in our collection.
First, please look at the Photo Album and get in touch with the web site about contributing to the collection. The pictures may be mailed to Maryland for scanning into the computer that hosts this web site. Your pictures will be returned to you. If you have your own scanning ability, scan them and e-mail them to the web site as attached files. Jpeg format is best, but other formats can be converted. Places like WalMart will make copies that can be mailed to protect the originals from damage or loss in the postal system. At the web site, we have the ability to take the copies apart, label them and put them back together again. Minor restoration can also be accomplished.
One of the advantages of having our own web site is that pictures can be added in a chronological order that will contribute to a more comprehensive story than can be developed by displaying some of these and some of those together on common pages.
If you don't have pictures to contribute, please help with identification. Check back often to see how we are progressing.
